The Black and Tan German Shepherd is the most recognized color pattern in the breed. Most people, when they picture a German Shepherd, picture this: a rich tan body with a black saddle across the back, black mask, and darker shading along the tail and ears. It is the standard by which the breed is typically known.

Black and tan is the dominant expression in most GSD bloodlines. It is fully recognized by the AKC and common across both working and show lines. There is nothing rare about it, which is the point. These are straightforward, well-bred German Shepherds in the most classic presentation of the breed.

The color is determined by the agouti gene and carries no specific health implications. A black and tan GSD from a health-tested breeder is the same dog, in every meaningful sense, as any other well-bred GSD.

How Our Adoption Process Works

 

  • Step 1: Browse Available Puppies: Our available puppies page shows current litters with photos, sex, color, and status. Puppies are listed as Available, Reserved, or Sold.
  • Step 2: Submit a Deposit: A deposit holds your puppy and removes them from the available list. Deposits are applied to the purchase price. We accept PayPal and major credit cards.
  • Step 3: Choose Pickup or Delivery: You can pick up your puppy in person at our facility in Ohio, or arrange delivery. We work with a trusted pet transport service for families who cannot travel. Details on the puppy travel page.
  • Step 4: Take Your Puppy Home: Puppies go home between 8 and 10 weeks of age. We send you home with documentation, feeding instructions, and a small bag of the food they are currently eating to ease the transition.

Delivery and Shipping

We ship to all 50 states. Ground transport and flight nanny options are available depending on your location and the time of year. Delivery costs vary and are not included in the puppy price. Contact us for a quote specific to your location.

Pricing

Puppy pricing depends on sex, coat color, and availability. Current pricing is listed on each puppy’s profile. We do not negotiate on price. The price reflects health testing, veterinary care, and the work that goes into raising a well-socialized puppy.

Are your puppies AKC registered?

Yes. All of our puppies are eligible for AKC registration. Papers are included with each puppy.

Do you offer a health guarantee?

Can I visit before purchasing?

Yes. We welcome visits by appointment. Contact us to schedule a time.

Do you ship puppies?

What age do puppies go home?

Between 8 and 10 weeks. We do not send puppies home before 8 weeks.

What vaccinations do your puppies have?

Puppies leave with their first DHPP vaccination and have been dewormed on a schedule. A health certificate from a licensed vet is included.
